Working from an old stone studio in the middle of England, Colette LaVette makes her oil paints from natural pigments such as iron oxides and ochres mixed with linseed oil. These are applied to linen and rag paper to explore themes such as rewilding, naturalism and primitivism. Lavette draws much inspiration from ancient history to modern civilisation and anything in between. The expressionist marks build rococo reminiscent worlds, from which biomorphic forms and rhythmic ornamentation emerge to create perpetual primal and mythological narratives.
